Sherri Lafreniere
Southern Tutchone Language Coordinator
toI acknowledge and appreciate that I am able to work and teach on the Taʼan Kwächʼan Council and Kwanlin Dün traditional territories. As a language coordinator I am responsible for implementing Southern Tutchone language into the school community.
I have been working in classrooms to include language into teachers daily lessons. Teachers have been very receptive to having me integrate Southern Tutchone language into their classes. There are a couple of classes that I work with on a weekly basis, teaching basic Southern Tutchone vocabulary that can be used on a daily basis. There has been ongoing work done on adding Southern Tutchone vocabulary throughout the school such as in the cafeteria, hallways, and classrooms. There have been more cultural activities happening at PCSS with language being implemented whenever possible. We are working on taking students to visit different locations in our community to experience and learn about language job opportunities that are available. I work very closely with the Souther Tutchone teacher here at PCSS and it is very beneficial to have two language speakers in the building so that we can demonstrate conversations that flow naturally. I look forward to opportunities to promote Southern Tutchone language here at Porter Creek Secondary School. |
